Are You Driven or Motivated?

Are You Driven or Motivated?

There are two types of people in this world. The driven and the motivated. The driven operate from their minds, while the motivated operate from their spirit. One is physical in nature, one is spirit in nature. Often times both think theirs is the right and only way. How wrong                                                       this is.

The driven do what has to be done, while the motivated do what they want to get done. The motivated are the slow and steady while the driven are often times the fast and furious. Oh, both can be a little of each, but usually one is dominant in their character.

For example, I am motivated but I lack skills to be driven. I have to want to do something not for the end result, but for how it makes me feel. I am thin and yet I am an avid exerciser. Why? Because I like the way I feel when I am doing it, and I like the way I feel after having done it. It’s a “get to” with me, not a “got to.” I don’t like goal setting. I just try to do my best every day. Some days it isn’t much, and that’s how it goes. The driven like to set goals because it causes them to act. Goals cause me to feel guilt when I can’t or don’t accomplish them.

The mistake we all make is to think our way is the right way. Me included. But a friend of mine always says life is suspended between heaven and earth. Heaven representing the motivated, and earth representing the driven. We need both to become successful. We need each other’s strength to become one. We need to embrace one another and value each other’s gift and talent.

Let’s learn to respect and value each other. God didn’t make man an island, but wants unity. After all, Jesus’s last prayer recorded in the Bible is for man to be one as God is one.

Take a moment to imagine what we could accomplish.

I find myself both motivated and driven. It depends on what it is that needs to be completed. This article gave my husband and I a good discussion.
