Don’t Let Loneliness Stop You
For years, all my life really, I have been afraid to go to a movie or out to eat alone. I’m not comfortable going anywhere alone really. Oh, I will go run errands by myself, but other than that I’ve pretty much relied on other people’s availability if I wanted to go to a restaurant or go to a movie theatre. Today is the day that I will overcome that fear. I’m waiting for 7 o’clock to roll around. It’s only 3:30 so I have a while to go. This is a big step for me. I hadn’t planned it but I drove past the movie theatre on my way to work and saw that the movie I had been wanting to see is playing tonight. How Do You Even Want to Want to?
That is the question I keep asking myself. The computer age passed me by. When I was attending Purdue University in the early 70’s no one had a personal computer. I had the first digital clock on our floor in the dorm. At that time, it was advanced technology. I remember someone calling out “what time is it,” and I replied 11:23. Their remark was, “who’s the smart ass.” No one ever said the exact time. It was either a quarter after 11 or 11:30. Everyone came running to my room to see this amazing new clock that I had.
