What Gives?

Have you ever noticed how overstimulated our society is getting? We talk on the phone while operating a keyboard, reading a newspaper, or whatever. When I turned on the TV this morning, I was watching Good Morning America to not only notice one news feed scrolling across the bottom of the picture, but now there were two! It’s hard enough for me to listen to the news and/or read at the same time. Now I have something else to switch my focus off of. I didn’t know what to pay attention to.
It was like a strobe light affecting my brain. I had to turn it off. It was just too much. I guess the second news feed was about the business news. Do I want to read about CVS doing better than expected, or Brian Williams being punished with 6 months leave with no pay, or the topic the newscaster was reporting on?
It doesn’t stop there. I went to fill up my car the other day at Shell and had to watch the news report at the same time. Is it too much to ask to stay focused on the job at hand? I feel pushed and rushed at the same time. Maybe our children are being raised to live in a society that does this, but I, as a baby boomer, was not.
I yearn for the simple times when I was told to go outside and play. I didn’t need an electronic device to hold in my hands all day to keep me occupied. And what gives with the phones? You go out to eat and see a group of teenagers sitting at a table in a restaurant all texting on their cell phones. No one gives you their time or attention any more.
It’s a sad society if we are all together and yet stay disconnected from each other. Maybe we don’t always have to be entertained or continually informed. No wonder we all need to meditate to find that still small voice. God would have to shout at us, and then I don’t even think we would hear Him.
What’s your opinion? Maybe it’s just me. I would love to hear from you.
Be blessed,
Bobbi

I could not agree more. I do not believe that the over stimulation is good for our children. Or us adults. I think society is self destructing. The information that we are exposed to constantly is not giving us that solid Christian foundation that we need. We are being bombarded with ideas that have satan jumping for joy. We are destroying our children and our country. We Christians are sitting idly by while our country is becoming more perverted. We don’t want to offend anyone, especially gays, because our leaders say we should be more tolerant. Wrong is wrong.
I am in agreement with you Bobbi. The more seemingly noises of life that bids for our attention, detachment as individuals and society ensues. Less is more, especially if the more deteriorates relationship with God and each other. Unfortunately the need for information and over simulation of our brains only grows bigger the more that it is fed. Innocently enough, it is common to man. Even in Jesus’s day He asked His disciples “could you not be with me one hour?” A good reminder to stop, take a deep breath, and prioritize the important things of life. God, family, and friends, for a balanced life as God intended from the very beginging. Thank you Bobbi for this simple reminder! Love your blogs! Keep them coming! Blessings, Lisa 🙂
There are lots of things that have changed in life. Priority is one and respect of others is another. Trying to run a fast pace life is what we teach, and yes we leave God out in the cold while we tend our lives then wonder why things are going so badly. We run our relationships the same way. You spouse or significant other isn’t your priority as they should be. Sadly that is why relationships have a hard time surviving. I was raised by a mother that taught me to always support your spouse and put them after God. No with the electronic age all is put on the back burner. Many and I mean many people need to see where always do who should be priorities. But that will see it when it’s to late. Wake up people.
I totally agree!!
